Born out of frustrations and limitations with existing apps, and after 100s of painstaking hours spent manually tracking and logging conditions, Kerry resident Ashley Barwick decided to build his own app, called Tight Lines to help improve his chances of a catch.
Intended initially as a passion project just for personal use, since releasing the app the interest from the fishing community has been overwhelming. By simply uploading a photo of your catch, the app will automatically capture the exact weather and tidal conditions at the time of the catch, based on the photoâs metadata. This means that you can upload photos from catches as far back as 2017, enabling the app to draw out insights on your spots and locations both past and present.
A big concern for Ash (along with most other anglers!) was making sure that the data and insights on spots wasnât publicly available, so crucially this is not a social networking tool - all the data is for your eyes and your eyes only.
With two small children, including a newborn baby, Ash has to maximise limited time available for fishing, and already Tight Lines has proven invaluable in helping him have success on the water.
